If people want to encourage rapid uptake of new versions, they need to make sure the new versions don't remove features that people rely on.ĬOVID may be affecting the efficiency of Avast's operations, and I am sympathetic because it is affecting my operation in a very serious way. This is a primary reason why I have only been using Avast Business Pro with Windows 10 devices, because Endpoint Protection Plus won't work with that operating system. The console is missing several features that were available in the SOA and this has made the system more time consuming for me to use. the SOA for Endpoint Protection Plus, new is definitely not better. In the case of the management console for Avast Business Pro vs. So as I wrote elsewhere, it slows down the development and release of updated protection for the new program versions. Those old program versions have less sensors, and they use different formats, so the code in the virus definitions gets complicated - and subsequently buggy (and of course takes longer time to write, and longer time to test). The program provides a lot of functionality for the virus definitions (you could imagine the program being an array of sensors feeding information into the virus definition code where it gets evaluated, plus also providing "executive functions" that can be called when a decision was made. Some 3rd party libraries may have to stay on old (possibly buggy or insecure) versions because the new/fixed ones cannot even be compiled with that old compiler anymore. That code has to be compiled with an old compiler (to work in those old programs), so it cannot use any new(er) features (that may have a performance or security impact). A big part of virus definitions are simply code - just like the program itself, only loaded from a newly created/updated folder every day. That is the only good thing about Avast.Īll other anti-virus companies charge you for every computer you have. It's not about the distribution, it's about their actual creation or implementation. The ONLY reason I use Avast is because the license can be used on 3 computers. If I click on the link shown it just opens the thread I have to look at every post to see where I've posted my comment. If I made a post it should show the thread I made not what I posted. Subscriptions is another long thread which I have made as bad as Avast is the forum is just as bad for my posts just like Avast itself, its like a Google search. So I want the same on my Windows XP computer that is what I pay for. I can scan a file or folder and it shows it there is a problem.Īvast Premium Security (build. 561) last time I checked.įree version or now the taskbar icon shows its not protected so the free version doesn't protect anything? I know what your going to say that's on old OS, I don't care if its old it works how I want it to work.Īvast Premium Security (build. To receive virus definitions updates from the Avast Threat Labs database after this date and Avast/AVG Antivirus versions 18 and older willĬontinue to work as usual providing full protection, but will not receive regular automatic updates of new program versions with new features.Ĭrap version 18.8 or older I want the newer version as install the older version does nothing as it won't install as its to old. However, please note that all Windows XP and Vista users will continue Migrating to version 19.1 scheduled to be released in December of 2018. This means that as of December 2018, existing users on the Windows XP or Windows Vista OS will remain on version 18.8 or older rather than Beginning on December 1, 2018, new Avast/AVG Antivirus products will no longer be delivered for the Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems.
